American Express @Work: Enterprise platform, six role-based portals
Multi-role enterprise platform managing corporate card programs, with six role-based experiences shaped by permissions, approvals and workflow logic.
6x role-based portals on one system
The problem
Enterprise card programs involve overlapping roles, sensitive approvals and strict governance, but most tools treat every user the same. American Express needed a platform that separates responsibilities cleanly, prevents permission leakage, handles dense financial dashboards, structures approvals securely and supports Arabic RTL and accessibility, without drowning people in complexity.
What I designed
I built the system around a hierarchical role architecture, giving each persona a purpose-built interface aligned to their authority. Clear governance boundaries, controlled states, progressive disclosure and action-based visibility reduced cognitive load at every level: one engine, with a simple and consistent output across all six portals.
